The brutally mean tweets read to housemates on Celebrity Big Brother on Thursday (September 6) may have been fake, but that hasn’t stopped one housemate from getting genuinely offended.
In the latest highlight show, housemates were gathered around the table and bombarded by viewer messages that called Kirstie Alley an “idiot” and Sally Morgan a “daft cow”, among other insults.
The catch was that these tweets were completely fake, having been written in the Diary Room by Kirstie herself, and had to be cruel enough to fool the housemates in order to win the day’s task.
Particularly harsh was Kirstie’s tweet about former Love Island star Gabby Allen, telling her she’s “not sexy” and ordering her to “stop batting her eyes at all the boys”.
Even though Gabby eventually found out that the viewers don’t actually feel that way about her, the reality star admitted in the Diary Room that the situation triggered her body image insecurities.
“I’ve had a lot of trolls and nasty comments before, in the past,” she opened up. “It takes a lot of self-love and work to really get over them, and to get get over them and just brush it off.
“When you’re in here, and it’s so intense, hearing things [like] that is just not ideal. Believe it or not, I do suffer with self-confidence issues. I’ve spoken openly about it before; wanting work done because I don’t feel like I suffice in areas that maybe I should.
“There’s things that I’ve considered getting done in order to make myself ‘sexier’ or ‘prettier’ or ‘worth it’. It’s taken a lot of work to get where I am today, confidence-wise, and I still struggle.
“To have something like [this], even if it was a fake comment, I was actually still upset about it. I was like, that’s a bit shit.”
Thankfully, Gabby received plenty of support from viewers:
Celebrity Big Brother airs its next live eviction on Friday (September 7) at 9pm on Channel 5, followed by Bit on the Side at 11.30pm.
