CASUALTY star Susan Cookson is joining Emmerdale – as rapist Lee’s mum.
The actress, 54, will appear onscreen next month as Wendy, who comes to the village to defend her son after he’s accused of attacking Victoria Sugden.
It comes after Victoria’s brother Robert and his partner Aaron exposed Lee through a poster campaign around the local area.
Soap fans will recognise Susan as Maggie Coldwell from Casualty between 2005 and 2008, then again from 2009 to 2015, but she’s actually been in Emmerdale before in three different roles.
Her most recent appearance was back in 2003, as DI Judy Dove, and before that, she made a one off appearance in 1997 as another police officer, DC Fallon.
Her first appearance was in 1993, as a unnamed garage attendant.
She’s also worked a year on Coronation Street, playing Callum Logan’s mum Marion between 2015 and 2016, and acted in Cold Feet, Doctors and Land Girls.
"I am thrilled and delighted to be joining the community, both on and off screen, that is Emmerdale,” Susan says.
"I am also excited about tackling all the gritty and emotional storylines that are ahead for my character Wendy. I'm thrilled to be playing such a fantastic character."
Evil Lee attacked Victoria during the soap’s Big Night Out – offering to walk her home after the nightclub, then pinning her down and raping her at home.
Victoria discovered she’s pregnant after the rape – leading brother Robert swearing revenge on Lee, threatening him at work and putting up posters exposing him as a rapist.
The police are now investigating Victoria for the poster campaign – but have dropped rape charges against Lee.
