Casualty is going off the air

Casualty has confirmed that it will be going off the air for an extended break after this week’s episode.

The BBC One serial drama was one of several that were forced to suspend production amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an effort to ensure it remained on the air for as long as possible, episodes which were completed prior to production shutting down have been rationed out — with lengthy hiatus’ implemented in between.

However, with filming not yet having resumed, the medical drama will go off the air after this week’s instalment (August 22).

The instalment in question is seemingly set to be a big one for the doctors of the ED, and features new developments for Connie Beauchamp (Amanda Mealing) and Jacob Masters (Charles Venn).

Spin-off series Holby City has resumed filming, but the final pre-lockdown episode aired last Tuesday (August 11), meaning that it has also gone off the air.

Holby will incorporate the coronavirus pandemic into the show’s narrative, and will return with a special covid-19 themed instalment.

Casualty is expected to commence filming soon.

Casualty airs its final pre-lockdown episode Saturday, August 22 at 7:45pm
