Britain’s Got Talent may have been on a hiatus for the past few months but tonight, Saturday, September 5, it will return for its semi-finals. The ITV talent competition will see the first eight contestants compete for your votes. Whoever gets through will then have a chance to win the grand prize of £250,000 and a slot on the Royal Variety Performance.

Britain’s Got Talent filmed its auditions at the beginning of the year before the country went into lockdown.

So fans were able to enjoy the pre-recorded episodes during the early weeks of the coronavirus pandemic.

But due to the worldwide circumstances, the semi-finals had to be put on hold for several months.

Now it is time though for the contestants who had been put through to show the country what they are really made of in the semi-final shows.

How does voting work on BGT?

For many years, viewers could vote for their favourite acts by calling a landline number or text who they wanted to back.

But for the past few seasons, this traditional method of voting has been scrapped and replaced with a far more up-to-date version.

Instead, voters will need to download the Britain’s Got Talent app to be able to cast their vote.

The app is available on iOS via the Apple App Store and Android through the Google Play Store.

This app is free to download and in recent years, users have been given five free votes before having to pay anything.

Users will have to register to vote before being able to vote which will be explained when you start using the app.

As the semi-finals are pre-recorded though, fans won’t find out who will go through tonight.

So far, it is unclear when tonight’s winners will be announced but it could be possible viewers may have to wait until next week for it to be revealed.

In each semi-final, there will be eight contestants performing for your votes.

On tonight’s show, these will be father-and-son magicians James and Dylan Piper, comedian Steve Royle, 10-year-old dancer Yakub and singer Imen Siar.

They will also be facing choir SOS From The Kids, danger magic act James Stott, dance group Urban Turtles and Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer Act young singer Fayth Ifil.

Speaking of the music mogul though, Cowell won’t be on the show tonight.

Last month, Cowell broke his back after falling off an electric bike.

He had to have a six-hour operation and is now in the middle of his 10-week recovery period.

Cowell will not be in the rest of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent and Amanda Holden will instead act as head judge in his absence.

Former BGT winner and Diversity dancer Ashley Banjo will also be acting as his replacement.

Britain’s Got Talent returns tonight, Saturday, September 5, at 8pm on ITV.
