BBC’s Press viewers in uproar over advertising exec’s VHS blunder

In tonight’s Press, fans were in shock when they heard of a man who claimed to have never heard of VHS, despite being in his mid-thirties.

The editor of The Herald, Amina Chaudury, met with an advertiser to work out how the paper could make more money, as he tries to convince her to put a wraparound advert on the paper to do so.

Amina argued against the idea, however, saying she didn’t want the paper "to end up like VHS" which began to put adverts before films.

She joked people eventually got bored of the adverts and stopped buying the video tapes, in defence of her disagreement.

But the 33-year-old advertiser stared blankly at Amina, saying he had no idea what a VHS was.

Viewers took to Twitter to point out how strange it would be for a 33-year-old not to know what a VHS is, considering they were thoroughly well used throughout his childhood and adolescence.

One fan took to social media, saying: "Okay, I am 33 and I know what VHS is. #Press"

Another said: "A 33 year old doesn’t know what a VHS is?! Erm, yeah we do! #press"

A third added: "Of course a 33-year-old has heard of VHS!! I’m 32… #Press"

Another fan of the show said: "What functioning 33 year-old hasn’t heard of a VHS tape?! What nonsense. #Press"

"The guy in #press is 33 and he doesn’t know what a vhs is?! Lies I tell you!," said another.

The show follows journalists as they try to outwit their competitors and create the best stories they can.

The next episode will see Holly uncover a massive scandal regarding a business tycoon, with Amina giving Holly to nod to investigate as pressure on the editor grows and grows.

Press continues on BBC1 on Thursday at 9pm.
