The upcoming TV adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials has found its Serafina Pekkal.
The beautiful witch queen will be played by Ruta Gedmintas, who fans may know from Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain, historical drama The Tudors or BBC Two comedy Stag.
“I am delighted to join the cast for His Dark Materials,” Gedmintas said (via Radio Times).

Gedmintas joins an already star-studded cast, which includes rising star Dafne Keen (Logan) as Lyra, James McAvoy as Lyra’s father Lord Asriel, Anne-Marie Duff as Ma Costa, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as balloonist and adventurer Lee Scoresby.

Also involved are The Wire‘s Clarke Peters, The Affair‘s Ruth Wilson, Game of Thrones‘ James Cosmo, and Archie Barnes as the voice of Pantalaimon.
The series began filming at the end of last month, and while there’s no air date yet, we do know it will begin with eight episodes covering the first novel, Northern Lights.
And if you were expecting any spoilers from the set you’re out of luck, as the show has employed the powerful Magisterium to stop any secrets from getting out.
Artwork unveiled earlier this month showed the official logo of the series’ version of the Magisterium, with the accompanying message: “The Magisterium has proclaimed that social media is a hotbed for heresy.
“Accounts associated with abominable heretical ‘spoiler’ discussions will face severe consequences.”
