The research scientist left fans baffled when he told judges Prue and Paul that he'd never tried the doughy delight before – only to later remark that he likes his doughnuts "with lots of filling".
Viewers who picked up on his conflicting comments claimed they had "busted" the contestant and branded him a "liar" on Twitter.
"Rahul said he’d never had a doughnut then said he liked a lot of filling in his. Hmmmm which is the truth? #gbbo," one ranted.
"So Rahul says he's never eaten a doughnut but then says he likes a doughnut with a lot of filling. Which is it, eh? #GBBOFinal #GBBO," another mocked.
A third slammed: "Rahul – Never had a doughnut. 10 mins later he says he likes his well filled. Crap. #GBBOFinal #GBBO #Kimjoywasrobbed."

However there were those who insisted there was a simple explanation for Rahul's comments.
Explaining that bakers are told about the technical challenge the week before it takes place, one said Rahul could merely have tried a doughnut in the days leading up to the bake.
One viewer wrote: "Rahul said he'd never had a doughnut BEFORE the challenge. And they were told of the challenge beforehand so they could come up with their 'signature'.
"So him saying he likes them with a lot of filling isn't a lie or a hole* in his story, naysayers. #gbbo #Bakeoff #NoPunIntended."
Another defended: "Ditto today the people going: 'Hey Rahul said he'd never had a doughnut before and now he's saying he likes one with lots of filling!' He said he'd never had one before researching this challenge, you numpties. #GBBO."
Despite the controversy, Rahul – who was up against Kim Joy and Ruby in the heated final – was crowned winner of last night's Bake Off after impressing the judges with his edible rock signature bake.
He said after his win: "I don't know whether to laugh or to cry or what, I just feel like I need to talk with my mum."
