The X Factor judge, who has Charlie, Theodora, six, and one-month-old Colette with her husband Robbie Williams, made the confession during the Pride of Britain awards.
Ayda, 39, said she felt “powerless” when their young son fell ill when asked about inspirational Ella Chadwick’s story.
She explained: “My son's had health problems.
“Nothing as serious as Ella's, but when your child is ill you feel so vulnerable, so powerless.
“Nothing else in the world matters until they're well again.
“So I really felt all Ella's mum's worry and pain.To see Ella so strong, sweet, selfless and cheeky, is so uplifting.”
During the emotional ceremony, David Beckham surprised young Ella with the Child of Courage award.
Ella was born with a rare-kidney disease and has faced hardships many could not even imagine.
She spent six years on dialysis before undergoing two kidney transplants.
Ella has dedicated years helping other children battling illness and former England football captain David said he was honoured to be able to meet the youngster.
She often creates and writes cards to hand out in the local hospital to help put a smile on people’s faces.
And David, 43, helped her out on her rounds, delivering cards to poorly children and giving them a day they would never forget.
Viewers admitted they had tears in their eyes as they watched David and Ella walking around hand-in-hand.
