Avengers: Infinity War is quite the chock-a-block movie, with plenty of heroes getting a crowning moment of awesome (or idiocy).
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have stated before that, despite the title, this is Thanos’ movie, which makes sense because it’s all about him going after his goal which he eventually achieves.
But in a recent interview with WIRED, the pair have also stated that, in terms of the heroes, they consider it to mostly be Thor’s story. Sorry, Iron Man, we know you like to make these things about you.
“In a lot of ways he is the driving hero’s arc of the movie which stands in direct opposition to Thanos’ argument,” Joe Russo explained.
“I would argue that (if) Thor chopped his head off at the end of the movie (then) the movie will belong to Thor, but because he didn’t it belongs to Thanos.”
“I think he’s been on a very complicated journey where he struggles with his ability to feel worthy and be worthy,” Joe added.
“I think he’s looking for a moral compass in his life. What we love about him in Infinity War is that he has been torn down to his essential parts and he goes on a hero’s journey, which is a very underdog journey for someone of his stature because he has lost everything in his life.”
This all sounds very ‘Thor’s gonna die’, doesn’t it? We know they need to make room for new heroes in the MCU, but if he does bite the bucket then we are sorely going to miss Chris Hemsworth, his piratey angel abs and surprisingly great comic timing.
Avengers: Infinity War is available to pre-order on Blu-ray, DVD or digital download.
