Ashley Roberts has no plans to perform to a Pussycat Dolls song on Strictly Come Dancing and doesn't think her 'booty smacking' skills are an advantage

The 36-year-old had a number of hits in the girl band including Don't Cha and When I Grow Up, but despite an impressive back catalogue, Ashley doesn't intend to incorporate them into her time on Strictly.

Speaking to The Sun Online ahead of tonight's launch show where she will meet her professional dance partner, Ashley said: "I don’t know if that’s allowed."

Ashley's participation in the show raised a few eyebrows when her name was announced considering her previous dance experience with the band.

But the star insists it doesn't give her as much of an advantage as people might think, and she's trying to take the pressure that's come with it in her stride.

She explained: "There’s a bit of pressure but the little booty smacks and booty popping I don’t think is allowed in the Latin / Ballroom world.

"I’m nervous to learn everything. It’s just so foreign to what my body has done."

However Ashley did concede she does have a head start on any co-stars who are total non-dancers.

She admitted: "I do have rhythm so it might be a little bit easier for me to possibly pick up a step but it is still a new skill that I do not know that I am going to have to learn.

"I really passionately want to learn it and get in there and hopefully do alright.

"The ballroom is definitely where I feel like I’m like ‘woah, that is so different’ and I’m like nervous and anxious to kinda feel what that feels like in the bod."

Despite her performance background, Ashley is still surprisingly nervous for the live shows.

Revealing that "performing live" was her biggest worry, she explained: "The judges have to critique us, that’s their job.

"And you know it’;s up to us how we take it on and apply it. But I think it’s just getting out there and doing it and doing it in that moment live."

Strictly Come Dancing starts tonight at 7.35pm on BBC One.
