ARNOLD Schwarzenegger donated $1 MILLION to the medical supply relief fund he co-created to help combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The former California governor, 72, made the hefty donation to his charity Frontline Responders Fund that supplies masks, gowns, gloves and other critical supplies to “protect our medical professionals in hospitals across the world.”
The Terminator actor opened up about his desire to help get the foundation operating: “Our doctors, nurses and hospital staff are the real action heroes of this crisis. I just play one in the movies.
“We have an opportunity and a responsibility to provide them with personal protective equipment right now to keep them safe as they fight this virus.
“So when I heard about Flexport.org’s plan, this was a no-brainer to me.
“With all of the courageous work they are doing on the frontlines to keep us safe, buying a few hundred thousand masks with a million dollars is the least I can do. Please take a moment to join me in supporting our heroes.”
Arnold practiced what he preached and announced to his nearly 20 million Instagram followers today that he had contributed seven-figures to the cause.
Alongside a screenshot of the GoFundMe page – which currently has $3.3 million in total donations – he wrote: "I never believed in sitting on the couch and complaining about how bad things are.
“I always believed we should all do our part to make things better. This is a simple way to protect our real action heroes on the frontlines in our hospitals, and I’m proud to be part of it.
“I donated 1 million dollars, and I hope that all of you who can will step up to support these heroes. Go to the link in my bio to help out,” he concluded.
The “Govenator” inspired other A-list celebrities to join him and actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 47, donated $100,000 to the Frontline fund.
Actor Edward Norton – who also helped get the organization set up – put in $10,000.
“All of us want to support our heroic frontline medical teams who are protecting us.
“This is a VERY effective way to get the desperately needed PPE gear to the teams that need it urgently. Let’s show them the love,” the Moonrise Kingdom star encouraged on Twitter.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, 43, was listed on the page having contributed $25,000.
The foundation is currently $1.5 million shy of their fundraising goal of $5 million.
Last week, the Frontliners Responders Fund helped medical non-profit MedShare donate 60,000 surgical masks, 34,000 gloves, 2,000 surgical gowns and 50 thermometers to San Francisco’s Department of Public Health.
