Sony’s head of feature casting Tamara Hunter is leaving the studio to join Apple as Head of Casting, Worldwide Video. She landed the job after a lengthy search and will report to Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, Apple’s Heads of Worldwide Video, who came to Apple from the TV side of Sony. Hunter, who will start in the new year, may not be replaced.
Hunter, a veteran casting executive, most recently served as Head of Feature Casting for Sony Pictures Entertainment, since 2016. There, she oversaw feature films and animation casting for Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Animation. The films she worked on included Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Equalizer 2, Hotel Transylvania, Venom, and upcoming films You Are My Friend, Miss Bala, Charlie’s Angels and Men in Black.
Hunter moved to Sony from 20th Century Fox where she also served as VP, Casting, overseeing feature casting. She was in charge of the casting for such films as Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse and Hidden Figures.
Hunter started her career in casting at the Sarah Finn Company, where she worked for more than a decade, rising through the ranks to Casting Director. During her tenure there, Hunter worked on numerous films, including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy as well as Godzilla and The Fast and the Furious.
