Agyness Deyn's acting career hopes slashed after BBC bosses axe drama Hard Sun

But telly bosses have axed the pre-apocalyptic crime thriller after just one series.

It suffered poor viewing figures early this year despite launching in a prime-time Saturday slot on BBC1.

That’s despite it coming from Neil Cross, who created the Beeb’s huge hit series Luther, starring Idris Elba.

A TV insider said: “This will be a huge disappointment for all concerned, but particularly for Agyness as this was her first appearance in a major series.

“Though she’s tried to make the jump from modelling to acting with a handful of projects this was her only substantial TV role to date. Following this bad start, it remains to be seen whether she will land another one any time soon.”

Agyness played Detective Inspector Elaine Renko alongside Jim Sturgess as Detective Chief Inspector Charlie Hicks in the violent drama set in London.

The six-parter began in January to respectable viewing figures.

But the rest of the series was placed on iPlayer after the first episode was shown and the number of people tuning in to watch on TV each week plunged.

Although the violent series was set against a solar event that would destroy the world, creator Neil finished on a cliffhanger that could have led to a sequel.

He even said he’d sketched out a five-season plan for the show.

But a spokeswoman for the Beeb said: “We sometimes have to make difficult decisions to make room for new shows.

“Hard Sun won’t be returning for a second series.”

Oh well, hope Agyness can remember how to negotiate a catwalk in stilettos.

I’M A Celebrity bosses have talked to Rosie Marcel about casting her. The actress, who plays surgeon Jac in BBC1’s Holby City, told Loose Women: “It is something I would love to do. It would be an amazing challenge.”

Viewing binge

IF you’re not full up on the myriad cooking shows already on offer, Channel 4 is about to add to them.

I’m told Family Food Fight will soon rival the likes of MasterChef, Bake Off, Great British Menu and The Big Family Cooking Showdown.

TV execs love the format, which was created in Australia where it is hosted by Tom Parker Bowles, son of Camilla.

The programme has also been picked up by American network ABC.

A source said: “After the success of Bake Off, the bosses have always got their eyes on other formats that could work here.

“Family Food Fight has done well in Australia and has already had interest from the States so they thought they’d nab it before another channel did.

“It’s not a done deal yet but all things are pointing towards it ending up on 4.”

The series sees generations of the same family go head to head in high-pressure cooking challenges to win a huge cash prize.

The dishes are inspired by real home cooking and family traditions.

Sounds a lot like the BBC’s Big Family Cooking Showdown to me.

In Coronation Street Peter offers to hand over cash to secure the factory for Carla, so she agrees to go into partnership with him.

Meanwhile, Sally and Tim are on the warpath, Eileen notices Sean’s dishevelled state and Jude assures Angie that they can overcome their problems.

In Neighbours, Susan is shocked to find Bea is making an effort to be friendly.

Mark asks Elly to make her mind up about whether they have a future, saying it’s now or never.

A romantic gesture by Sheila takes Clive by surprise – and leads to a funny misunderstanding.
