13 Reasons Why season 3 could see cast get major pay increases

The cast of 13 Reasons Why could be getting a big pay increase ahead of the new series after renegotiating their contracts.

Series three of the breakout Netflix show is set to start production on Monday August 13.

According to Deadline, Dylan Minette, who plays the shows lead Clay Jensen, made around $80,000 (£63,000) per episode for the last two seasons of the show.

He’s now thought to be seeking around $200,000 (£155,000) for the upcoming series.

Brandon Flynn (Justin Foley), Alisha Boe (Jessica Davis), Justin Prentice (Bryce Walker), Christian Navarro (Tony Padilla), Miles Heizer (Alex Standall), Devin Druid (Tyler Down) and Ross Butler (Zach Dempsey) are also looking for increases.

They are reported to have earned between $20,000 (£16,000) – $60,000 (£47,000) per episode which they want increased to £150,000 (£117,000).

Digital Spy have reached out to Netflix for comment.

It’s common practise for cast members to renegotiate contracts following the second series of a show.

The cast of Stranger Things did the same thing before the third season started filming.

Katherine Langford, who played main character Hannah Baker in the first two seasons, recently confirmed she would not be returning as she said goodbye to her character.

Hannah took her own life in the first season of the show, and sent a tape to each person she thought was responsible for her suicide.

The second series saw her return as a vision that could only be seen by Clay as he struggled to come to terms with her death.

Netflix also defended bringing the show back for a third time after the second series was met with a lot of criticism.

Netflix VP Cindy Holland said: “Honestly, the biggest consideration was, is there more story to be told and what is that story?”

She added: “[We] had a very thoughtful conversation about the fact that we needed to see how these characters move on, to the extent to which they move on, following Jessica through her journey of recovery following that kind of trauma.

“We felt we owed it to the characters as much as to the fans.”
