Room2 Southampton review – The Sun

FOR those who feel Airbnbs are too unpredictable but don't want the formality of a hotel, room2 in Southampton is a great alternative.

Room2 Southampton’s ‘hometel’ concept aims to combine the best bits of a hotel with the comfort and flexibility of home.

1. Where is room2 Southampton?

Based in Southampton, room2 boasts spectacular views over Queens Park and the harbour.

For guests arriving by car, there is private parking available for £12 a night.

The nearest train station is Southampton Central where you can get a bus to within three minutes’ walk of the hotel.

2. What is room2 Southampton like?

Halfway between a hotel and a holiday apartment, room2 gives you the freedom to do your own thing while taking care of all the little extras you usually miss when going on holiday.

There's a real hipster vibe here – the interiors have a mix of colourful, old-fashioned furniture with a bare wood and grey metal decor.

Importantly, there's also a well-stocked bar.

3.What to do at room2 Southampton?

Room2 is ideal for a one night stop before hopping on a cruise from Southampton or as a way of seeing the city.

While there’s not much to do at room2 itself, guests can head to the SeaCity Museum to see a model of the Titanic or take a wander through Southampton’s City Art Gallery.

4. What is there to eat and drink at room2 Southampton?

Each room has its own kitchen with all the mod cons you need to cook a meal.

Alternatively, the room2 complex has its own cafe and bar as well as a pantry shop where you can pick up a breakfast bag for £6 per person.

Guests are also right on the doorstep of Southampton city centre for a meal out or a takeaway.

5. What are the rooms like at room2 Southampton?

The ‘hometel’s’ 71 rooms come with fully equipped kitchens, king-size beds and enough space to work or unwind.

There are a range of rooms from ‘study’ and ‘lounge’ options – with work desks or space for entertaining – to the top-end master lofts which have enough space for a family and even a dining table.

When we visited, our loft room had a cute extra bed in the corner that kids would love.

Optional extras, such as picking your own mattress, are nice quirks.
