Disneyland’s admission prices will be going up as they open a Star Wars branded wing to the theme park.
As Star Wars fans everywhere eagerly await the grand opening the brand new Galaxy’s Edge theme park, Disneyland Resort has announced admission prices have been raised before the park is due to open to the public.
As Fortune reported, the price hike went into effect on Jan. 6, 2018, and saw an increase of 8 percent in ticket costs. A ticket to the park during off-peak days, such as during the month of May, will now cost $104 USD while regular day passes will start at $129. Tickets sold during peak-demand days, particularly during the summer season, will cost parkgoers $149. Daily parking will also see an increase of 25 percent to $25.
Since 2000, Disneyland has more than tripled its admission prices. Prior to this price hike, the last increases occurred twice in 2018.
“We continue to provide our guests with a variety of ticket offerings to meet their needs, while helping us to spread visitation, better manage demand and deliver a great experience,” Disneyland Resort spokesperson Liz Jaeger told CNN.
Although these admission increases are fairly substantial, Disney has apparently put forth a number of discounts perhaps in an attempt to comfort any wary potential visitors. According to CNN, discounts, some drop the daily rate to as little as $70 USD with the purchase of a “three-day, One Park” ticket, but these must be used before May 23, 2019.
However, according to Theme Park Insider editor Robert Niles, the price increase does not indicate any sort of decrease in park population to come.
“Fans will pay Disneyland’s higher prices to experience the new Star Wars lands,” Niles told CNN. “If anything, people might switch to visiting at less crowded times of the year to escape the highest prices — but that’s exactly what Disney wants its fans to do, as it looks to balance attendance levels throughout the year.”
Disney’s new “Star Wars: Galaxy Edge” themed parks are due to open in June at Disneyland and later in the fall at Disney World. These 14-acre intergalactic adventure additions will be set on the fictional planet of Batuu. Guests can climb aboard the legendary Millenium Falcon ship and pilot the craft in the attraction, “Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run.”
The ride features a complete working cockpit with 200 controls and a window fixed with an immersive video screen that lets riders truly feel as though they are piloting the fastest ship in the galaxy.
There will also be another brand new attraction called “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” which sees guests board an Imperial Star Destroyer and face off against supreme leader of the First Order, Kylo Ren. For a more relaxed Star Wars experience, guests can also enjoy a cantina with alcoholic beverages and tasty treats.
