Microsoft has updated its Your Phone app for Windows 10 and Android to allow fans to make and receive phone calls from their PC. This feature first made its way to Windows Insiders back in October but now it’s rolling out to all users. Once you’ve paired your Windows 10 PC and smartphone, you’ll be greeted with a new “calls” tab within the Your Phone app on your computer that’ll allow you to see recent calls and even dial a number using a virtual keypad.
Of course, you’re also able to go through a list of your contacts to find the person you want to call, too.
If you receive a phone call while using your PC, an alert will be displayed on the latter allowing you to answer it, send it to voicemail or decline it.
Better yet, the Your Phone update also allows users to seamlessly transfer calls between devices. That means if you’re having a long catch-up with a far-flung family member on your PC you’re able to transition to your phone if you need to be more mobile.
Explaining the addition, Microsoft said: “No need to dig for your Android phone to answer your personal or work calls. You can now stay connected by simply answering (or not) your phone calls on your PC. Tap into your PC’s speakers, microphone, and large screen for a richer calling experience.”
Here’s a rundown of what you can do with the new Your Phone feature:
• Answer incoming phone calls on your PC
• Initiate phone calls from your PC using in-app dialer or contact list
• Decline incoming phone calls on your PC with custom text or send directly to your phone’s voicemail
• Access your recent call history on your PC. Clicking on a specific call will auto populate the number within the dialer screen
• Seamlessly transfer calls between your PC and phone
The latest feature for the Your Phone app certainly strengthens the ties between Windows 10 and Android. The software already allows Android users to receive messages, notifications and even intuitively share pictures to their PC.
To take advantage of the new calling feature, you’ll have to make sure you’re running the latest version of the Your Phone app on both Windows 10 and Android. This can be done by heading to the Microsoft Store on Windows and Google Play Store on Android respectively.
It’s also worth noting that you’ll need an Android phone running Android 7 or later to use the Your Phone app.
Unfortunately, iPhone users are unable to take advantage of the new feature. At the time of writing, Microsoft still hasn’t released the Your Phone app for Apple’s smartphone lineup.
