Instagram revolutionised the world of photography when it offered everyone on Planet Earth the chance to loop photographs using the Boomerang feature.
Now WhatsApp is reportedly planning to offers its users this game-changing ability.
Normally, you’d be sued to within an inch of your life for suggesting one app stole an idea from another.
But, of course, Facebook owns both Instagram and WhatsApp so it’s allowed to pilfer anything it flipping well likes.
The reliable website WABetaInfo has discovered that the new feature will be introduced in the coming weeks or months.
It’s being tested right now so it will work perfectly when WhatsApp’s 1.3 billion users.
Currently, you can load a video into WhatsApp and loop it by converting it into a gif.
Boomerang is a little bit different because it plays a short clip forwards and backwards in a loop, making the video oscillate like the pendulum of a grandfather clock.
WABetaInfo wrote: ‘The option will be available in the Video Type panel (the same that allows the user to convert a video to GIF) when the video is less than 7 seconds, and it can be used to easily create a boomerang of your videos, to send to your contacts and as a status update.’
Instagram introduced Boomerang in 2015 and it’s been the gif which keeps on giffing ever since.
