Vodafone announced the launch of 5G earlier this month and now the UK network has more news on this superfast signal.
When the company switched on 5G it was available in seven parts of Britain including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool and London.
However, that’s now changing with Vodafone revealing 5G is coming to more areas from this week.
Customers can start to experience this service in Birkenhead, Bolton, Gatwick, Lancaster, Newbury, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent and Wolverhampton.
“Vodafone’s global presence means we can provide our consumer and business customers with 5G in more destinations than any other UK provider,” said Vodafone UK Chief Executive Officer Nick Jeffery.
“Combined with our new unlimited data plans, we are offering customers the best roaming experience ever.
“They won’t have to hunt for Wi-Fi or rely on often expensive and slow hotel connections; they can use their 5G smartphones to enjoy faster roaming.”
Although this is good news for consumers it’s worth noting that your current 4G phone won’t be compatible with this updated signal and you will need to upgrade your device to access improved speeds.
There is one more thing to be aware of as Vodafone is currently offering just two handsets to its users.
These include the Galaxy S10 5G and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G.
One of Vodafone’s biggest rivals is currently offering much more choice with EE stocking the Galaxy S10 5G, OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, OPPO Reno 5G and LG V50 ThinQ with its new 5G plans.
EE has also just announced a deal which gives those switching to a OnePlus 7 Pro 5G the chance to get £200 back when they trade-in their old device.
You can find more details on that offer here.
Along with Vodafone revealing more areas getting 5G the network has also announced a new home broadband plan.
The UK network says its 5G GigaCube will bring blistering speeds to homes without the need for expensive installation.
In fact, the GigaCube is actually fully portable meaning you take it with you when you travel.
This Wi-Fi device can access speeds at up to 1Gbps which is around 20 times faster than the average fixed-line broadband.
HOW MUCH FASTER IS 5G?
Depending on where you are in the country it’s possible to get an average 4G speed of around 20-30Mbps.
That’s as fast as most fixed-line broadband and would allow you to download an HD movie in around 20 minutes.
5G takes things to a new level with average speeds exceeding 100Mbps.
It’s also very likely that some users will experience speeds nearing 1Gbps with an HD movie downloading in under 40 seconds.
Express.co.uk has already put EE’s 5G to the test in London with speeds pushing through the 300Mbps barrier.
