Virgin Media is down leaving customers unable to access internet

It’s one of the most popular internet providers in the UK, but it seems that Virgin Media has gone down this afternoon.

According to Down Detector, the issues have been going on since around 09:30 GMT, and are affecting users in South London.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported issues, 70% said they were having problems with their cable internet, 19% with their mobile internet, and 9% with their TV.

Unsurprisingly, many frustrated users have taken to Twitter to express their annoyance at the outage.

One user said: “I honestly don’t even know where to begin. Decide to take a few days off work, to catch-up with emails and taxes and then my broadband @virginmedia decides to be down for days. Lovely just checked with the neighbours and they haven’t had media in at least 3 days.”

  • UK's worst street for broadband uncovered – and it's 800 times slower than the fastest

  • You can now get Virgin Media's super fast Wi-Fi for under £18 per month

Another wrote: “@virginmedia complete outtage of tv and broadband and WiFi since early morning and your webpage is down as well! And it’s not the first time, past two weeks your service keeps going down- rubbish!!”

And one added: “@virginmedia second time in 3 weeks the internet is down, what you guys doing?

While problems have been reported across the UK, Virgin Media claims that the problem is only affecting users in New Malden.

Speaking to Mirror Online, a Virgin Media spokesperson said: “A third-party has accidentally cut through a fibre optic cable causing a loss of service for residential and business customers in the New Malden area.

"We are working to repair this fibre break as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
