Control your dreams so you can live out your fantasies in your sleep – that’s what a new gadget claims to offer.
The InstaDreamer is a vibrating smart bracelet which its makers claim can induce lucid dreaming.
Lucid dreaming is a state where you can be conscious enough to control your dreams.
The bracelet is currently on Kickstarter where it has already smashed its target for funding.
While sleep tracking has proved a popular use for wearables, this is the first time one has been created to specifically control the state the sleeper is in.
The InstaDreamer can apparently detect when a person is dreaming and vibrates. This, the makers claim, allows the wearer to take control of their dreams.
This works using a form of Pavlovian conditioning where the bracelet vibrates in the day so the wearer can associate that vibration with a feeling of consciously being aware they are awake.
Apply that to a dream state and it should, theoretically, allow the wearer to enter a state of lucid dreaming.
While the InstaDreamer makes claims that 70 percent of testers experienced lucid dreaming, it didn’t state how many were tested or what it classes as lucid dreaming.
The drug galantamine has been found to stimulate lucid dreaming but research in this area is difficult as the only measure of what is a lucid dream is based on the dreamer’s opinion.
As such, how well this bracelet works remains to be seen. Expect the InstaDreamer to start shipping in February 2019.
