Uber is offering a new rewards program for frequent riders-hailers that will make you rethink about using Lyft.
In what is being referred to as an airline-like rewards program, Uber is offering those who use their ride service a slew of perks. Customers can earn lower fares, priority pickups at all airports and better customer service.
Now the last one really should not be a perk. A good company gives all customers the same quality of help, regardless of awards status. It apparently doesn’t work that way, but it definitely should.
According to The Verge, Uber Rewards officially launched last Wednesday, November 14th, and is similar to the program that started for drivers only last month. There are four categories or levels for the rewards program: Blue, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. You advance to the various levels by earning points, which is based on a six-month period.
Uber did research to determine how many times a person will need to use the service to get to the next tier. For example, Gold status riders typically use Uber Pool twice a week, as well as Uber X and Uber Eats once a month. Diamond riders are considered to be customers who use rider service a lot, at least multiple times a week, including Uber Eats.

The way you earn points is based on the dollar amount you spend, as well as one point for Uber Pool and Uber Eats orders. UberX and UberXL users will get two points per order. It takes 500 points to go from Blue to Gold, 2,500 to go from Gold to Platinum and 7,500 to advance from Platinum to Diamond. Plus, for every 500 points a rewards member earns, Uber will add $5 to your account for rides or food delivery.
Uber Rewards has launched in nine cities while it is in the testing phase. Miami, Denver, Tampa, New York, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, San Diego, and across New Jersey. Last month, Lyft shared it would be offering a rewards program to riders but did not reveal any details.
Now that you know about the pretty amazing Uber Rewards, will you be signing up for it? Does the program make you want to use Uber over Lyft now?
