Uber is going to ban passengers for bad behaviour so be nice to your driver

Uber has threatened to ban passengers who behave badly in taxis.

Drivers are able to rate passengers and give them a star rating based on what they get up to whist in the back of their car.

Now the app has vowed to give people the boot if they continue to act up whilst being driven to their destination.

Naughty behaviour could include leaving rubbish in a taxi, being rude to the driver or encouraging them to break the speed limit.

If peoples’ star rating is too low, they will be given the chance to improve their score.

But if the user refuses to buck up their ideas, they will be banned from Uber and will have to think of another way to get home after the pub.

Kate Parker, head of safety brand and initiatives at Uber, said: ‘Riders may lose access to Uber if they develop a significantly below average rating.

‘Riders will receive tips on how to improve their ratings, such as encouraging polite behaviour, avoiding leaving trash in the vehicle and avoiding requests for drivers to exceed the speed limit.

‘Riders will have several opportunities to improve their rating prior to losing access to the Uber apps.

‘Many riders probably aren’t aware that drivers can rate them just as they are rating their drivers. (Your rating is displayed under your name in the menu bar.)

‘Ratings are always reported as averages, and neither riders nor drivers see the individual rating of a particular trip.’

The taxi app is also reportedly planning to banish random pick-ups in favour of long-term relationships.

A respected tech analyst has said Uber will soon to allow users to choose their favourite drivers.

This means that passengers won’t have to ask any old person to take them home and will be able to engage in a fullfilling encounter with someone they know and trust instead.

The feature is being tested right now, according to Jane Manchun-Wong, a tech expert who specialises in uncovering upcoming features hidden with the code of apps.

She tweeted: ‘Uber is testing an option to add drivers as your favourite so you can ride with them in the future.’

Uber recently added public transport information for Greater London to its app for the first time, which will show bus and train information alongside its own ride-hailing options.

The firm said it wants to help reduce private car ownership and air pollution in the city by promoting wider transport options.

From today, users will see a new ‘Public Transport’ option appear when they enter a destination, which will show real-time London Underground and bus information as well other train, tram, riverboat, Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and Overground access, alongside Uber’s various journey options.

Jamie Heywood, the app’s regional general manager for northern and eastern Europe said: ‘London is home to the world’s most iconic public transport network, and we’re excited to now provide live transit information in the Uber app.

‘Over time, it’s our goal to help people replace their car with their phone by offering a range of mobility options – whether cars, bikes or public transport – all in the Uber app.’

Earlier this month, Uber announced it would begin charging an extra pound for journeys in London’s congestion charge zone to help drivers pay the £11.50 daily fee charged by Transport for London (TfL) for entering the area in the centre of the capital.

The firm said it would make car-sharing UberPool journeys and those involving wheelchair accessible vehicles exempt from the new charge to “help reduce traffic and toxicity in London”.

David Reich, Uber’s head of transit said: ‘With 3.5 million Londoners relying on Uber, we recognise the important responsibilities that come with being a good partner to this great global city.

‘We share many of the same goals as the cities that we serve and are committed to addressing the same challenges: reducing individual car ownership, expanding transportation access and tackling air pollution.’
