US Border protection has deployed robotic "dogs" on the border that Twitter users have likened to Netflix's Black Mirror.
The new technology, aptly named 'Man's Best Friend', aims to assist Customs and Border Protection staff in the hostile environment of the American Southwest by reducing human exposure to life-threatening hazards.
According to Gavin Kenneally, chief product officer at Ghost Robotics, 100lb four-legged robot with no head is designed to trek in all types of natural terrain including sand, rocks, and hills but also on human-built environments like stairs.
Kenneally added: "It has the ability to feel through its motors and can estimate friction forces and automatically correct for uneven or slippery ground.”
Sharing the news, editor of Texas Monthly, Jack Herrera tweeted: "DHS and Border Patrol are working together to eventually deploy Ghost Robotic's "dogs" on the border, in particular desert terrain.
"Terminator dogs will supposedly act as a "force multiplier" for CBP in patrols and interdiction."
But rather than being amazed at the huge advancement in technology, Twitter seemed more preoccupied with the robot's resemblance to the robotic dogs Bella, played by Maxine Peake, was fleeing from in the 'Metalhead' episode of Black Mirror.
One user tweeted "we have 15 seconds to comply" with a gif of the Black Mirror robot.

Another warned: "They’re going to be on city streets in less than a decade."
A third added: "Oh, hey, someone saw the Metalhead episode of Black Mirror & took it as aspirational instead of cautionary. Awesome. AWESOME."
A fourth said: "I have it on good authority that Terminators sometimes cause problems…"
A fifth said: "You know you're on the right side of History when you literally make a Black Mirror episode happen in real life."
