Spotify DOWN: Music and podcast streaming app, website not working for users worldwide

Spotify users have been left unable to access the music streaming app due to an apparent outage.

Music and podcast listeners worldwide have been faced with an error message when launching the service.

“Something went wrong,” it points out, helpfully. The only option available to iOS and Android users is to tap the “Try Again” button.

Unfortunately, this does nothing to resolve the ongoing issues. As a result, users have flooded social media to complain about the issues.

Independent outage tracking service DownDetector, which monitors social media mentions to track the scale of outages, shows hundreds of reports from disappointed Spotify users logged every single minute. At its highest, DownDector tracked more than 440 reports every single minute.

When these social media messages are displayed on a world map based on their location data, the reports reveal that UK, French and US users appear to be most affected by the Spotify issues.

Users are tweeting the @SpotifyCares account – an official account designed to provide support to subscribers who are struggling to access the music and podcast streaming app. The support team manning the account are recommending that users try to log-out of Spotify, restart their smartphone or laptop, then log back into Spotify.

One user posted “hi there. In getting an error across multiple devices saying “browse isn’t working right now”. Is there an issue with the service?”

“When trying to access the soundtrack to the Aladdin 2019 movie Spotify app states that “something went wrong”. Internet connection is Ok. Can you help?” another asked.

One added: “Hi @SpotifyUK are you down? Can’t get Spotify Premium to work. Every track says something went wrong”

And another Spotify user went with a simple: “How the hell is Spotify servers down?”

However, the @SpotifyStatus account on Twitter – which is designed to automatically share when there is an issue with any of its servers, or services – has stayed mum on the latest purported outage. It’s likely that Spotify is preparing a statement to share from this account in case it cannot resolve the problem quickly.
