Samsung’s Galaxy S10 could be available with six cameras and a massive 6.7-inch display, according to the latest round of leaks and rumours.
But the phone might sit alongside the more traditional models and bring a new S10 device which is codenamed Beyond X. According to the Wall Street Journal this phone will be announced along with the S10, but might not launch until later in the year.
The WSJ also suggests that we might see a fourth handset – possibly the final version of Samsung’s folding phone.
The Beyond X could very well include new camera sensors that offer more advanced depth information and perhaps more zoom and wide angle options.
Samsung could, therefore, launch a pair of traditional Galaxy S models, the S10 and S10+ while adding a new model to the range. This means it won’t be disappointing customers who simply want an improved version of the S9 handsets.
The Beyond X device would also offer support for brand new 5G networks which are starting to launch worldwide. In the UK, EE has already confirmed 16 areas it will offer the new mobile services during 2019.
Three and Vodafone are also launching 5G networks but not until 2019.
Samsung Galaxy S10 features
Galaxy S10 and S10+ rumours from reliable leakers like Evan Blass suggest that we’ll see an in-screen fingerprint scanner and an entirely new type of display which doesn’t have a large notch.
Instead of putting the front cameras behind a black bar at the top of the screens the S10 phones will instead have a hole punched into their OLED.
According to leaker Ice Universe this hole-making process will be exclusive to Samsung but will eventually find its way into other devices.
Infinity displays
At the 2018 Samsung Developer Conference the company also showed diagrams for new displays.
Called the Infinity-U, Infinity-V, Infinity-O and New Infinity these panels use various techniques to contain the front-facing camera.
The Infinity-U is a small notch, the V a more angular (unsurprisingly v-shaped) cut out and the Infinity-O is a circular hole for the selfie camera.
It’s the Infinity-O that will be used on the S10 devices, according to most of these recent leaks.
When will the S10 be announced?
Samsung usually announces its flagship phone around the mobile industry’s trade show, Mobile World Congress. That event takes place in late February with the phones going on sale in mid-March.
