PlayStation 5 could launch alongside a new PSVR headset, report claims

It’s tipped to launch next month, and now a new report suggests that the PlayStation 5 could launch along a virtual reality headset.

While PlayStation has previously confirmed that existing PSVR headsets will work with the PS5, the new report, by developer VR Education, indicates that an entirely new headset will launch.

VR Education explained: “2020 will see Sony release the PlayStation 5 and a new version of the PlayStation VR headset (PSVR), which will further expand the high-end VR user base; the Group intends to support this device with its current suite of showcase software."

Unfortunately, the report doesn’t go into further detail about the headset, so it remains unclear what features it could have.

PlayStation’s first VR headset launched back in 2016 and is still very popular.

It has a number of impressive features, including 360-degree vision, 120fps visuals and 3D audio, helping players to really immersive themselves with the game.

Unfortunately, Sony has remained tight-lipped on all of the PlayStation 5 rumours so far.

However, it confirmed last year that the console will go on sale in Holiday 2020.

Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, explained: “Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring.

“Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020.”

While Holiday 2020 is still a while away, rumours suggest that Sony could unveil the console at an event next month – watch this space!
