Pixel 4 leak may reveal its two biggest advantages over the Google Pixel 3

Pixel 4 is the name of the next flagship smartphone from Google – the American tech firm surprised Android fans last month by revealing a picture of the phone’s rear.

The handset was showcased with a new square camera module that housed at least two sensors.

Pixel 4 will be the first handset in the series to come with more than one rear camera – it is unknown what the function of the second lens on the 2019 device will be.

No fingerprint sensor was shown on the back of the product, suggesting Google could embed a scanner underneath its display.

While the Pixel 4 looks set to come with various design and camera improvements, new leaks have suggested the hardware could have two further advantages over its predecessor.

Ice Universe recently took to Twitter and showcased a claimed screen protector for the forthcoming Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL – the phone was showcased with radically reduced borders all around.

Most importantly, neither the alleged Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL was showcased with a notch at the top, a design characteristic that infamously plagued the Pixel 3 XL.

The Pixel 3 XL’s cutout was not only criticised by Express.co.uk in our review, but it also proved to be incredibly controversial with Android fans.

It seems Google looks set to avoid debuting a notch on the Pixel 4, a move that will surely give it an advantage over its predecessor from an aesthetic standpoint.

Instead it seems both models of the phone will come with thin bezels all around except for at the phone’s top where a noticeable strip will be present.

The supposed screen protectors exhibited multiple cutouts that are presumably for front cameras and sensors that could be present on the Pixel 4 series.

In particular, the right-hand side of the bezel was displayed to feature a large pill-shaped cutout.

In his tweet showcasing the screen protectors, Ice Universe stated the hole meant the Pixel 4 series would be “groundbreaking and new and worth looking forward to”.

9to5Google has reported a motion sensing technology called Project Soli, that Google revealed back in 2015, could debut on the Pixel 4.

Back in 2016 Google demoed Project Soli on a smartwatch – a user was shown to position their hand in front of the device to perform certain functions such as pausing music feedback.

Recent renders of the Pixel 4 recently surfaced courtesy of OnLeaks and iGeeksBlog – the phone’s design appeared to corroborate previous outings.

In particular, the outlet suggested a small sensor positioned in-between the Pixel’s front cameras and earpiece could be used for facial recognition.

If the Pixel 4 does arrive with this kind of security authentication it would be the first device in Google’s smartphone series to tout such a feature, giving it another advantage over the Pixel 3.

Such functionality would surely be greatly appreciated by Android fans wanting an alternative to either fingerprint scanning or inputting a traditional password.
