If you use Netflix, you’re probably experienced the annoyance of having to sit through a boring episode of the TV programme you’re binging.
While you might be tempted to skip the episode entirely, there’s always the risk of missing a key detail and ruining the series entirely.
Now, Netflix is testing a new feature that lets you speed up or slow down TV programmes and films.
In a blog about the feature, Keela Robinson, vice-president at Netflix, explained: “This is a mobile only test and gives people the ability to vary the speed at which they watch on phones or tablets – choosing from normal to slower (0.5X or 0.75X) or faster (1.25X and 1.5X).
“It’s a feature that has long been available on DVD players – and has been frequently requested by our members.”
While the audio is sped up or slowed down, thankfully the pitch is automatically corrected, so you won’t be subject to any squeaky or strangely deep voices.
Ms Robinson added that the feature is only being tested on mobile to ‘be sensitive to creator concerns.’
These concerns have come from a number of actors and directors, including Judd Apatow, who said that the change would ‘f*** with out riming.
He wrote: “Don’t make me have to call every director and show creator on Earth to fight you on this.
“Save me the time. I will win but it will take a ton of time. Don’t f*** with our timing. We give you nice things. Leave them as they were intended to be seen.”
Meanwhile, Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul claimed that there was ‘no way’ Netflix would roll out the feature.
He tweeted: “There is NO WAY Netflix will move forward with this.
“That would mean they are completely taking control of everyone else’s art and destroying it. Netflix is far better than that. Am I right Netflix?”
As it stands, Netflix is only testing the feature, and has ‘no plans’ to roll it out to users.
Ms Robinson added: “Whether we introduce these features for everyone at some point will depend on the feedback we receive.”
