Netflix finally lets users switch off autoplay previews – here's how to do it

Netflix has apparently been listening to its customers because it’s finally created an option to switch off the automatic previews that play on the homepage.

Apparently, users have been asking for this for a long time and the streaming service has finally paid attention. It responded to a tweet from writer Sarah Hollowell asking if there was any way to switch off the infuriating feature.

‘We’ve heard the feedback loud and clear — members can now control whether or not they see autoplay previews on Netflix,’ the company posted, along with a link to a page explaining how to do it.

Here’s how it’s done:

As well as turning off the autoplaying previews, users can also remove the option to automatically play the next episode in a series. That option is in a check box right next to the preview toggle.

Despite increased pressure from the likes of Amazon Prime and Disney+, Netflix appears to be doing just fine at the moment. In fact, the streaming service just inked another deal with actor Adam Sandler after revealing that subscribers have spent two billion hours watching his films.

Their six-year partnership has spawned five films, including last year’s Murder Mystery, which Netflix revealed was Adam’s biggest film on the service, with 83 million households viewing the film to within its first four weeks of being online.

The streaming giant also stated that it was the most popular film on the service in 2019 in several countries, including the US, Canada and Australia.

Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, said in a statement: ‘Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him.

‘They love his stories and his humour, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extended our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.’
