Mate 30 Pro is one of the most anticipated Android phones of the year, in part because it’s expected to be extremely controversial.
The new Huawei device is presumed to run Android 10 but come without support for Google apps and services such as the Play Store, Gmail, Chrome, Maps and more. This follows the US government’s decision to place the Chinese firm on a trade blacklist, effectively prohibiting all domestic companies, such as Google, from dealing with it.
Most of these programmes will presumably be accessible via a web browser, however this method would certainly provide a severely worse experience than a traditional app.
However, this isn’t even the biggest question mark hanging over the Mate 30 Pro’s debut – it is uncertain if Huawei will release the handset in western markets at all.
Earlier this week LetsGoDigital issued a report, citing a “Huawei insider”, claiming the Asian firm will not release any models of its Mate 30 series in “Central Europe”.
The outlet noted Huawei has realised “launching an expensive high-end smartphone without Google apps is practically useless in Europe”.
With that said, the Mate 30 Pro will certainly release in China where Google apps are not a fundamental pillar of mobile user experiences.
In terms of pure hardware though, the Mate 30 Pro is expected to be a specification beast.
The Chinese vendor has already confirmed the handset will be powered by its new Kirin 990 chipset that promises to deliver the fastest performance on any Huawei phone to date.
Plus, the silicon also comes with support for 5G networks built-in.
Design-wise, leaks have shown the Mate 30 Pro with a new futuristic display and a revamped circular camera system on its rear.
The phone has been tipped to flaunt a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a “waterfall” aesthetic.
Essentially, this means the device’s sides will feature more prominent curves than other Android entries such as the P30 Pro or Samsung Galaxy Note 10.
As is standard with premium Huawei devices, it is expected the Mate 30 Pro will place its camera on a pedestal.
The flagship has been rumoured to come with a quartet of lenses on its rear comprised of a 40-megapixel primary shooter, a 40-megapixel ultra wide-angle module, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera and a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor.
On its front the handset is expected to tote three cameras that are primary, ultra wide-angle and ToF sensors respectively.
While we expect the Mate 30 Pro’s hardware to be extremely impressive, Express.co.uk is most interested to see how Huawei addresses the phone’s expected lack of Google support.
