iPhone 11 v Google Pixel 4: One of these phones just suffered an embarrassing defeat

Apple launched its iPhone 11 series back in September. During its unveiling, the Cupertino firm was eager to highlight some of its best new features, like its new triple camera system, monstrous battery life and rapid performance.

Each iPhone 11 model comes fitted with Apple’s A13 Bionic processor under the bonnet. As has been the case with most recent chipsets from the company, the A13 outpaces its rivals from Qualcomm, Samsung and Huawei universally in benchmarks.

But just how good is the A13 Bionic in real-world usage? Well, YouTube channel PhoneBuff recently pitted the iPhone 11 Pro Max against Google’s new Pixel 4 to see which delivers superior performance.

The most interesting part of this comparison is the fact each device’s hardware and software has been put together by a single company, Google for the Pixel and Apple for the iPhone.

Apple, in particular, has always been praised for the way it’s so eloquently able to optimise its software for its hardware to achieve laudable performance.

So has Google managed to keep pace, or even surpass Apple this year? In a word… no.

PhoneBuff is renowned for its smartphone performance comparisons that leverage a robot arm to open a series of apps on a device. After a set number of programmes have been opened, the arm will open each once again to see if the phone was able to memorise where the user left off.

The test can not only be used as a barometer of performance, but it’s also great for seeing how a device’s RAM management stacks up.

Put simply, Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Max crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 2:39, at which point the Google Pixel 4 was sweating and panting a country mile behind.

Google’s 2019 flagship finished the test over 30 seconds later, with an end result of 3:16.

The Pixel 4 was not only shown to open apps slower than the iPhone, but it also struggled a little more with re-opening apps, too.

It’s worth noting that, on paper at least, the Pixel 4 should outperform the iPhone where RAM management is concerned, simply because the device has 6GB while the Pro Max has 4GB. However, PhoneBuff’s test has shown this simply isn’t the case.

With that said, the Pixel 4 is still a nippy Android phone to use. Express.co.uk recently reviewed the Google handset and was eager to note its performance is a marked improvement over the Pixel 3 that had the tendency to stutter, crash and was plagued by RAM issues.
