HP has revealed one of the world’s lightest laptops, the Elite Dragonfly x360, which tips the scales at just under 1kg.
Weighing 997g to be exact, the 13-inch device might not be the lightest laptop ever made but it’s definitely up there. And perhaps one of the most powerful at this weight.
When launched in November later this year, the Elite Dragonfly x360 will take on the likes of LG’s Gram 13 laptop, which is a little lighter than HP’s at 965g, and Acer’s Swift 7 (890g).
However, what makes it more impressive is what it’s able to achieve in such a light package.
Despite its relative weight, the HP Dragonfly x360 is more powerful than most of its lightweight competition as it’s aimed at serious business users.
For comparison’s sake, the Acer Swift 7 is perhaps the lightest laptop on the market right, weighing 100g less than HP’s latest device at 890 grams.
However, the Swift 7 has received critique for its disappointing performance despite its impressively compact form factor.
Meanwhile, HP latest offering can transform into four different modes – including a tablet – due to its 360-degree hinge. It packs an Intel 8th gen Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and a massive 2TB hard drive.
Somehow, HP has also managed to squeeze in a range of full-sized connectivity ports. There’s two Thunderbolt 3 and a USB 3.1 port as well as an audio jack for headphones, and an HDMI port for an external screen.
The battery life doesn’t suffer as a result of the Elite Dragonfly x360’s compact size and lightweight, either. HP claims it will run for an unbelievable 24.5 hours.
So how did they manage to make the Slite Dragonfly x360 so light despite all of its features? First off, it’s made from a special all-alloy chassis.
“We used to use aluminium but it's heavy,” said HP’s head of design at Personal Systems, Stacey Wolff, at a launch event in New York.
