Google Pixel 4 live stream: How to watch the Google Home and Pixel Watch launch

Google will unveil its latest flagship smartphone, Pixel 4, at its annual hardware event. Dubbed Made By Google, the showcase will be held in New York City.

There’s plenty to expect from the event today, including an all-new Google Home to compete with the latest line-up from Amazon, an upgraded Google Wi-Fi with support for the Wi-Fi 6 standard, as well as a Google Home Mini, a Pixel Watch wearable, and a new pair of AirPod rivals, dubbed Google Pixel Buds 2.

The Made By Google event kickstarts in New York City at 7am PT, 10am ET, and 3pm UK.

Google is making the event available to stream on YouTube. You can watch the Pixel 4 unveiled – although, admittedly, most of it has already leaked online in great detail – on the Made By Google profile, or in the embedded video player below:

Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will have a dual-camera system on the back, Google confirmed in an image it posted on Twitter earlier this year.

According to rumours and leaked camera samples, the new dual-lens system will be capable of better optical zoom, improved Portrait Mode images, and low-light photography – even being able to pick-out individual stars in the night sky.

The new handset will have a face unlock system that will be as secure as Face ID on the iPhone. Google will let Pixel 4 owners unlock their device, as well as secure apps – like banking, and authenticate payments using only their face.

Unlike the Pixel 3 XL, Google will drop the notch for its latest-generation of handsets. The chunkier bezel at the top of the display will house sensors that allow smartphone owners to wave their hand above the device to skip tracks, pause music playback, and more. And if you don’t fancy waving around your hands, then Google Assistant will purportedly start listening to users as soon as they pick-up the handset.

According to a leaked listing on Irish online retailer Elara, the entry-level Pixel 4 with 64GB of storage will start from €819.98, which is roughly £723. Given that Google Pixel 3 started at £739 when it launched last year with the same 64GB built-in storage option that seems about right.

But when it comes to the Pixel 4 XL, things get pretty pricey. Elara claims the jumbo-sized smartphone will cost €1126.68 with the maxed-out 128GB storage option.

That works out around £993, which is pricier than the already-expensive-enough Pixel 3 XL, which topped-out at £969 for its 128GB model. Of course, currency conversions only give a rough indication of what to expect from the pricing of the new handset.

Google will likely adjust its pricing slightly based on the local market, so it’s perfectly possible we’ll see the Mountain View-based company keep exactly the same pricing tiers as it had with the Pixel 3 series last year.

Either way, these new flagship smartphones from Google are not going to be cheap.
