We’re sure your phone is packed full of videos you’d rather keep to yourself.
But if you’ve been using a Google service to download clips stored in the cloud then your secret footage might have been shown to a total stranger.
Google runs a Photo service which allows you to store images and video online.
It has alarmed a number of users by writing to warn them of a ‘technical issue’ which may have placed their clips in some random person’s archive.
The problem affected people who downloaded their videos and other data between November 21 and 15 last year – which means it’s likely to only affect a relatively small number of people.
‘During this time, some videos in Google Photos were incorrectly exported to unreleased users’ archives.
‘One or more videos in your Google Photos account was affected by this issue.’
People caught up in the drama may also have been able to see other people’s intimate vids.
‘If you downloaded data, it may be incomplete, and it may contain videos that are not yours.’
Google has written to customers to apologise and also issued the following comment: ‘We are notifying people about a bug that may have affected users who used Google Takeout to export their Google Photos content between November 21 and November 25.
‘These users may have received either an incomplete archive, or videos—not photos—that were not theirs.
‘We fixed the underlying issue and have conducted an in-depth analysis to help prevent this from ever happening again. We are very sorry this happened.’
