They’re two of the most popular navigational apps around the world, and now Google Maps and Apple Maps have had an epic stand-off – or at least their cars have.
A hilarious photo has revealed the moment the Google Maps Street View Car passed the Apple Maps Look Around car this week.
The awkward encounter took place on 7th Avenue in New York, and was spotted by one eagle-eyed Reddit user.
User ClemyNX posted the photo, writing: “Google car and Apple car staring at each other: Street View vs Look Around.”
Apple Maps launched Look Around in its iOS 13 update last year.
Like Google’s Street View, the feature allows you to explore locations as if you’re there.
Apple explained: “Explore where you’re going before you get there with an immersive 3D experience that gives you a 360-degree view of a place. And enjoy smooth and seamless transitions as you navigate your way around.”
The awkward encounter comes shortly after a man blamed Google Maps after falling into a frozen river in Minneapolis.
The man, who is unnamed, attempted to walk across the frozen Mississippi River over the weekend, claiming that Google Maps told him it was the quickest route.
However, the ice quickly cracked beneath his feet, partially plunging him into the frozen water.
Thankfully, the Minneapolis Fire Department quickly responded to the man’s calls, and helped him to escape from the river.
According to CBS, the man suffered a mild case of hypothermia following the incident.
