Google leaped into the flagship smartphone battle today (October 9) with the final reveal of their new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
Some huge upgrades are jammed into the new Pixel model, improving the camera – which was already pretty fantastic – and the processor.
Google was plagued with leaks and rumours before their live launch today, but the world was finally introduced to an incredible new smartphone that could seriously upset the status quo.
Several new Google products were announced during the Made By Google event, including updates to the Google Home Hub, the Pixel Slate and the new flagship Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
After a long-winded presentation about Google’s successes, we finally got a look at what the new flagship phones are capable of.
Google Pixel 3 spec and price
An all-glass, matte finish with two-tone class will make the smartphones feel premium – just what you want for a premium phone then.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will be bigger than last year’s models, measuring in at 5.5-inch and 6.3-inch respectively, and the XL will have a massive edge-to-edge OLED screen that looks truly impressive.
Despite the size difference, Google were quick to point out that both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are the same under the hood.
The Pixel 3 is apparently even being used by professional photographers – good news for you young, budding snappers. HDR+ will make images pop with colour and detail, combining to create some of the best pictures available on a smartphone.
You will be able to pre-order the Google Pixel 3 right now, starting from $799 in the US, with a UK release on November 1.

Google Hub was also given some stage time, showing off how Google is trying to make future home assistance something you can buy today.
The Hub was shown to be capable of managing smart lights, door locks, heating and water – as well as managing your calendar and giving you helpful tips on how to cook your dinner.

We aren’t sure we really need that much assistance when it comes to cooking, but the household management options looked impressive.

Pixel Slate

Not quite a tablet, not quite a phone, not quite a laptop, the Pixel Slate straddles that strange line between devices that is just too big for your pocket, but not big enough for your laptop.
Off the bat, the screen looked pretty incredible – more than 6 million pixels make up the screen that honestly does look stunning.

Front-facing speakers bring in impressive sound, and a powerful camera will be one of the biggest draws for potential buyers.
Google heavily pushed on their new voice integration throughout the entire reveal presentation, with voice commands shown to be capable of controlling a huge array of requests and commands, from answering the door-bell to checking the weather.
A detachable keyboard is available at an additional cost, transforming the tablet into a laptop.
The Google Pixel Slate will cost $599 when it launches in the US, and the additional keyboard will cost $199.
