Who’d have thought it? The Galaxy S10 has already started receiving Google’s new November 2019 security patch for Android… and we’re still in October.
That’s so efficient that Samsung has managed to beat Google itself — the firm behind the development of Android.
As first reported by SamMobile, the latest One UI update (Samsung’s dramatically redesigned Android operating system that it unleashed last year) is now rolling out for Galaxy S10 units in Switzerland right now, but is expected to roll out in other territories gradually.
It’s currently unclear what’s housed in the new patch (neither Samsung or Google have updated their respective security pages with information on the November update yet) but we’d expect it to beef-up the device’s protections against vulnerabilities and malware.
It’s presumed the South Korean tech firm will update its security blog with details for the November patch in the coming days.
The release of the patch for the Galaxy S10 is remarkable because Samsung has beaten Google to its own update. As you’d expect, Pixel phones usually receive the latest and greatest software before any other handsets. That’s not the case this month though.
Interestingly, the latest upgrade comes only days after Samsung released the October 2019 security patch for its smartphones. It’s currently unclear why the firm didn’t just bundle both together.
The October 2019 patch not only strengthens security for the Galaxy S10, but it also introduces a few nifty features, too.
Chief of these is certainly the ability to take slow-motion video using the flagship’s front-facing camera. The functionality seems to work incredibly similarly to Apple’s Slofies feature, only without a cringeworthy name…
As Samsung has started rolling out a new security patch to its S10 series, owners are encouraged to check for new software updates so they can install it the moment it’s released.
This can be done by heading to Settings > Software Update.
Security patches aren’t the only thing coming to your Galaxy S10 though. That’s because Samsung is currently beta testing its brand spanking new One UI software based on Google’s Android 10.
Expected to release before the year is over, Samsung’s One UI 2.0 boasts a number of improvements over its predecessor. These include less distracting notifications, an improved dark mode and Digital Wellness, which is Samsung’s version of Google’s Digital Wellbeing.
