Galaxy Note 9 debuted back in August and it is expected its successor, the presumably titled Galaxy Note 10, will be unwrapped at around the same time of year in 2019.
Galaxy Note 10 has been rumoured to make a number of substantial changes to the South Korean tech giant’s signature phablet line.
Chief, and perhaps the most controversial, of these has been tipped to be the removal of the headphone jack.
Such claims come by way of South Korean publication ETNews that cited sources familiar with the matter.
The outlet said there was “no detailed reason” for the ousting of the age-old port.
Samsung, along with LG, are two of the biggest smartphone manufacturers around that have maintained the 3.5 millimetre jack in their flagship devices while competitors such as Apple, Huawei and OnePlus have ditched it.
Secondly, ETNews has also speculated the Note 10 could come without any physical buttons on its body whatsoever.
Instead, the outlet said the hardware could require the user to take advantage of touch sensors and gestures to perform certain functions.
Finally, a recent report from ETNews has claimed the hardware could break from previous Samsung tradition by releasing in multiple models.
In particular, the outlet said four variants of the Note 10 will be available; two of which were stated to come with a 6.28-inch display and the other pair with a larger 6.75-inch panel.
It was stated one model in each size would tout 5G capabilities while the other would be limited to 4G speeds.
While the accuracy of such a claim was previously unknown, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg has now confirmed Samsung’s next Note hardware will support 5G connectivity.
Speaking during the firm’s first Quarter of 2019 earnings call, he said: “The Samsung phone, both the Note and the Galaxy coming this year, will both have 5G.”
The transcript from the earnings call has been published online and is now available for viewing.
Verizon Communications Inc. is a US network provider that has been one of many touting the capabilities of 5G network speeds.
One of the biggest benefits 5G promises is greater connectivity and faster download speeds.
More specifically, it is thought speeds of over 100Mbps will be common once customers make the jump to 5G.
While the inclusion of 5G on its next Note handset has not been confirmed by Samsung, if the device does allow for such technology it could present a drastic speed boost over its predecessor.
