Furious Microsoft Windows 10 users claim latest update is causing major problems

Generally, software updates are meant to fix problems.

But Windows 10 users have once again claimed the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system is playing havoc with their systems.

The alleged issues are caused by Microsoft KB4524147, which is supposed to mend an ‘Internet Explorer scripting engine security vulnerability’ which could let hackers take control of their system – a nightmarish scenario which could end very badly if crooks managed to get into a victim’s bank account or perform some other nefarious action.

It was also meant to ‘correct a recent printing issue some users have experienced’ – but appears to have the opposite effect.

In a Reddit post, one furious Microsoft users said the software was ‘supposed to fix printing issues’ but ’causes more printer issues’.

‘I had a weird issue on some clients computers where when they try to print it just crashes the program and it will even crash Windows Explorer when trying to print a test page,’ they wrote.

‘I have seen this issue on two computers so far today.

‘After uninstalling KB4524147 everything went back to normal. Good luck out there trying to keep Windows 10 updated and not breaking everything.’

Other people claimed the update had ‘broken’ their start menu, showing a ‘critical error’ message.

A Reddit user wrote: ‘Windows update supposed to fix issue with X causes more issues with X

‘Windows update breaks the start menu.

‘How come these two things are so common recently, especially the start menu breaking?’

The problems have caused a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth on Twitter.

A coder called Joonas Loppi wrote a tweet addressed to Microsoft which asked: ‘Do you do any testing? There have been many reports recently of you shipping s*** updates to customers.’

If you’re affected by the problems, you can either uninstall the software or wait for the inevitable fix which will be issued in the coming days or weeks

Last month, Microsoft admitted that a bug in Windows 10 was causing major problems with victims’ computers.

The update was called Windows 10 KB4512941 and is alleged to make some people’s CPU run wild, meaning their whole system slows down.

Some users affected by the glitch were also prevented from using the Windows Search option near the start menu.

Now Microsoft has vowed to solve the issue and said a fix is on the way.

On its support page, the tech firm wrote: ‘Microsoft is getting reports that a small number of users may not receive results when using Windows Desktop Search and may see high CPU usage from SearchUI.exe.

‘This issue only occurs on devices that have disabled searching the web using Windows Desktop Search.

‘We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in mid-September.’

It was claimed the problem lies with Cortana – Microsoft’s voice assistant.

‘I just installed KB4512941 and now Windows Search is broke and Cortana process in task manager takes 90% CPU,’ a Windows user wrote on Reddit.

On Twitter, one gamer shared his pain after the update stopped his favourite game from working properly.

‘Very cool that Skyrim is broken,’ he wrote.

‘Yet another thing Windows updates have ruined for me. They’ve taken everything from me.’

Luckily, Microsoft has now turned out automatic updates meaning new software won’t be rammed onto your computer without express permission.
