Ford drivers have become the first to get self-driving tech in the UK

Ford drivers will be the first to use self-driving tech in the UK, thanks to the release of a new driving assist feature.

Ford has just launched a tool called BlueCruise for its 2023 Mach-E models.

It uses AI and advanced driver assistance tech to allow you to drive hands-free down 2300 miles of motorway across the UK.

It's the first Level 2 'self-driving' tech that's been approved for use on UK roads, meaning Ford drivers will get to experience hands-free driving even before Tesla owners.

The system uses five radars and a built-in camera to detect road markings, traffic, and signs. It then takes all this data and uses it to control acceleration, steering, braking and positioning.

It's designed to keep the vehicle a safe distance from other cars. It also ensures the driver is paying attention to the road using a driver-facing camera.

If the car detects that you're not focused on the road, it will make you use the steering wheel again or stop the car.

The software is free for the first 90 days to Mach-E owners and then goes up to £17.99 per month.

It's currently only available for the 2023 model of the Mach-E, but is likely to be added to older vehicles in future.

It works at up to 80mph on 2300 miles of designated motorways across the UK called 'Blue Zones'. It's unclear when or if these zones will be extended by Highways England in future, but Ford's use of the technology will likely pave the way for more self-driving zones across the country.
