Facebook Down: Social network not working as thousands hit by outage

Facebook is down this afternoon with thousands complaining of the social media site not working.

Users of the social networking sites are reporting that they are unable to login, with others noting that Facebook is showing an error message.

Down Detector, an independent outage monitor that tracks outages across the globe by monitoring social mentions has seen a huge spike in reports for both social networks in the last hour.

The Down Detector outage map shows the Facebook and Instagram issues are mainly affecting users of the social networks who are based in the UK, Europe.

The Facebook server status page is currently showing as having "Degraded Performance" with a further desciption adding:

"We are currently experiencing degraded performance across the entire platform, resulting in increased request response time. Our team is aware of the issue and is working on a solution."

It's suggested that a possible fix has been pushed by the Facebook team, but quite whether this has fixed the problems still haven't been confirmed by the team, fot the time being.

The site has seen a spike of close to 2000 reports in the past 30 minutes and as you imagine, there's plenty of users unhappy with the service going down.

"Something went wrong. Try refreshing this page Refreshing the page does not work," one user wrote.

Another added: "Very very glitchy. Failing to load and notification issues."

Whilst a third user complained, "Yep my news feed just went down totally on all devices"
