EE network enlists Bastille for first 5G-streamed augmented reality gig

The phone network EE used its 5G technology to stream a surprise gig from Bastille live from Birmingham’s New Street station.

The British band performed their iconic track Pompeii during rush hour at the station – which was part of a recording for a new EE advert.

But the company also used the event to showcase its streaming tech. Commuters passing through city centres in both Liverpool and Edinburgh were able to watch the music in real-time using glasses from Bejong-based Nreal and the latest Samsung devices.

‘With 5G, our customers can enjoy immersive experiences no matter where they are, even during their commute and in the busiest places,’ said Pete Jeavons, marketing and communications director at BT and EE.

‘We’re saying goodbye to the days of refreshing our screens while waiting to get out of the station into a less congested area.’

‘This extraordinary AR performance from Bastille in three cities simultaneously, is a great demonstration of what’s now possible for our customers with 5G.’
