Bang & Olufsen (B&O) has launched a second-generation of its popular wireless Beoplay H4 cans which boast a number of improvements over their predecessor.
The new headphones are a melding of leather, aluminium, stainless steel and braided textile. But while the design is very similar to the original B&O H4, the Danish firm claims it has worked to ensure the braided textile cable that connects the ear cushions to the head frame is less noticeable.
In terms of hardware, the second-generation H4 include an additional microphone designed to help some voices cut-through your favourite track – so you should be able to hear friends and family more easily when they’re calling them, even on a busy street.
B&O has also gone all-in on digital voice assistants, too. There’s now a dedicated button that’ll summon B&O’s virtual helper, meaning you can instantly bark-out your next song choice.
By far the most interesting addition to the H4’s is aptX Low Latency. In a nutshell, this should exterminate any audio lag when binging your favourite Netflix shows or YouTube videos.
Thankfully, B&O hasn’t introduced any gestures to skip songs à la Sony and Bose. Instead, the H4 headphones come with a simple three-button setup that is used to play, pause, skip tracks, answer calls and more.
Of course, you’ll find some high quality 40-millimetre drivers inside the cans that should the signature sound that B&O has built its reputation on.
B&O claims to have you covered for battery life, too. The Danish tech firm is claiming you should get up to 19 hours of music playback on a single charge, volume dependent of course.

When you do need to refill the B&O H4, it should take about two hours until they’re ready to go again. B&O have finally gone with USB-C here, so wave goodbye to any Micro USB cables.
Don’t worry about the headphones dying on you though since they also support wired connectivity. But because most phones these days have ditched the age-old 3.5-millimetre jack, you’ll have to make sure you have the right adapter with you.
B&O’s new Beoplay H4 headphones are available right now and have replaced the first-generation. They cost £250 and are available in either matte black, or limestone finishes.
