AT&T names John Stankey as chief operating officer

(Reuters) – U.S. wireless carrier AT&T Inc on Tuesday named John Stankey as its chief operating officer effective Oct. 1.

Stankey currently the chief executive officer of WarnerMedia, the entertainment business of AT&T, has been in the company for over three decades.

The company also named Jeff McElfresh as the head its communication business, replacing John Donovan, who retired earlier.

Stankey, 56, will report to AT&T Chief Executive Officer Randall Stephenson, the company said.
