He’s best known for his designs for Apple, but now Sir Jony Ive has turned his hand to jewellery.
Sir Ive has designed a bespoke ring made entirely of diamond – and it’s as beautiful as you would imagine.
The ring was designed exclusively for the Sotheby’s (RED) auction, raising funds to help eliminate HIV in eight African countries.
The singular, clear ring has absolutely no metal settings, and instead is sculpted purely from diamond.
On the Sotheby’s listing, it said: “Theirs will be created by removing material rather than adding – an ambition made possible by the extraordinary scale of the stone which will enable the ring to be completely made of this material.”
Creating a ring purely from diamond is no mean feat.
The ring needs to be cylindrically cut out for the desired smoothness using a micrometer thick water jet, alongside a laser beam.

The finished ring will have between 2,000-3,000 facets – something that has never been achieved in a single piece before.
Unsurprisingly, the ring is expected to fetch an eye-watering amount at the auction, which is taking place on 5 December.
Sothebys predicts that the ring will go for $150,000 – $250,000.
