Zola tells Chelsea stars on bench to crouch down to let fans see during penalty shootout win over Spurs

The Blues legend and assistant manager showed his caring side as he gestured for his men to move out of the way of supporters behind them.

And the move went down a storm with the Chelsea faithful as they were able to capture all the drama of the spot-kick triumph to cement a place in the Carabao Cup Final.

Despite all cameras being focussed on the action in the goal, footage taken from a fan in the stand caught the Italian instructing new signing Gonzalo Higuain and Co to get down low.

And the dozen or so entourage quickly oblige to his request, allowing those behind them to have a clear view.

A fan said: “The fans next to the bench couldn't see. I know what it is like because I have always had taller players in front of me.

“I asked the players to bend down cause some of the kids couldn't see.”

Zola returned to Stamford Bridge as No.2 to Maurizio Sarri last summer.

And the 52-year-old’s iconic status amongst the club’s supporters will have only been strengthened with last night’s antics.

“Very thoughtful of him” quipped one fan, while another hailed him as a “proper gentleman and a legend.”

While another called Jimmy O’Hare tweeted: “I am sure that I am speaking for every Chelsea fan, when I say that I am unbelievably happy with him being back at the club.

“Truly world class servant, and him and Sarri will do special things, of that I am certain.”

Chelsea will now play Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday, February 24.

Goals from N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard earned the Blues a 2-1 second leg victory yesterday against Spurs to take it to a shoot-out with the scores tied at 2-2 on aggregate.

But Eric Dier and Lucas Moura both missed the target for the visitors as Mauricio Pochettino’s side crashed out of the competition.
