Watch daft footballer fall down steep drop and injure himself celebrating goal in Japan’s J-League

The 25-year-old leapt over the advertising hoardings after putting his side 3-1 up against Shimizu S-Pulse in their J1 League clash at Sapparo Dome in Japan.

He subsequently crashed to the ground after failing to realise there was a huge steep drop – with his team-mates and club physios instantly rushing over to him.

The medical team immediately started giving him treatment, with fears that he may have sustained a serious injury as he laid motionless on his back.

But much to the delight of his adoring fans, the Brazilian gingerly got back to his feet before applauding the home supporters.

Lopes was replaced by former England international Jay Bothroyd in the 78th minute, but he certainly left his mark – both on the pitch as well as off it.

The ex-FC Seoul loanee netted four goals in the clash, as he helped Consadole win 5-2 to lift them up to second spot in the Japanese top-flight.

Speaking after the match, a jubilant Lopes said: "I’m grateful to the team, team officials and to God.

"Thank you to all of the supporters who turned this match into a festival. I’m going to keep doing my best."

Sapporo have now recorded back-to-back victories since losing in their season opener against Shonan Bellmare.
