Rotated Gunners struggled to assert themselves during a pedestrian first 45 minutes in the Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon.
But a much-improved second period saw Emery’s side continue their stellar run through Danny Welbeck’s winner.
And the Spanish coach said: “The most important thing is we were in dressing room at half time and we spoke about not imposing ourselves in the first 45 minutes.
“But we said in the second half we have an opportunity to change the result and continue our way, thinking only to win this match and to improve.
“We did that. The is very important for us because we want to finish first in this group and Sporting were level with us. I think it is a big positive thing today.”
The result in Portugal made it three wins out of three in Europe for Arsenal as they edge closer to their all-time club-record of 14 victories on the spin.
They sit fourth in the Premier League, just two points behind leaders Man City, ahead of the weekend’s London derby with Crystal Palace.
And Emery – who replaced Arsene Wenger this summer – insists his only focus is Sunday's clash.
He added: “There's still three matches, that's a lot. We are only thinking of Palace.
“Every match is not easy for us. Sunday, in our history at Palace, is very difficult for us.
“I'm only thinking about three points at Palace but I know it's very difficult to win there.”
