KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV’S father Abdulmanap is reportedly in a critical condition and been placed in a coma after suffering complications with pneumonia.
The UFC trainer is in a Moscow military hospital after being taken from Dagestan to the Russian capital city via a “special flight”.
The 57-year-old, who has coached his UFC lightweight champion son for most of his undefeated career, has now been placed in a coma with his family unable to visit his bedside.
Sport Express say a source told them: “Abdulmanap is in a bad condition, he’s in Moscow and in a coma.
“They didn’t treat him properly in Dagestan, and some complications arose.
"They flew him to Moscow, where he is now in a military hospital.
“He’s on his own there, they won’t allow family (to visit).”
UFC lightweight and family friend Islam Makhachev also confirmed that Abdulmanap is in critical condition.
He said: “He is in Moscow, he is in critical condition.”
Abdulmanap's health battle was made public when his close friend and sports commentator Ramazan Rabadanov revealed the news last month.
He said: “Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov fell ill.
“I almost managed to equip the park, took out the garbage, planted an alley of new trees, put beautiful benches along the paths, and yesterday I did not come to the park.
“I hope pneumonia doesn’t really hook my friend and he will come to the park again.”
UFC president Dana White said: "Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is a true martial artist who lives a life of pride, honor and respect. He instilled those same values in his son, world champion Khabib, at an early age and was always in his corner throughout his career.
"I know how close Khabib is with his father and I’m saddened to hear about his current state. My thoughts are with Abdulmanap and the Nurmagomedov family as he continues to fight."
Khabib, who famously defeated Conor McGregor and became embroiled in a huge post-fight melee in 2018, secured UFC’s lightweight title in 2018 by beating Al Iaquinta.
Since forcing McGregor to submit he has successfully defended the belt against Dustin Poirier.
He is expected to put it on the line again against Justin Gaethje next, with UFC president Dana White saying theshowdown could take place on the specially-constructed Fight Island this summer.
